Depression: Understanding loss - Is depression the same as grieving?
Grief is deemed to be a normal part of life and the process of grieving an often painful but necessary way to move forward to peace and acceptance. Grief occurs after a loss, whether that is loss of a beloved family member, a pet or a job or the breakdown of a relationship. Grief can cause you to feel hopeless, devsatated, overwhelmed, deeply heartbroken and alone. You may feel you will never come through it, but in time, you will. There is no right or wrong way to grieve. Everybody is different and has different ways of coping. Neither is there a definite time on how long it will take to get through your grief.
How To Improve Communication Skills In Your Relationship
Do you find yourself clamming up or shutting down because you just want to keep the peace? But inside you are sitting on layers of unexpressed feelings?
Do you have difficulty saying “No”, and eventually find yourself feeling resentful?
Does your partner get defensive?
Do you end up arguing about the same old things, over and over again?
Does anger get in the way of your giving and receiving love?
Are you longing for peace and harmony in your relationship, but you find you’re feeling irritable and isolated more often than not?
Self Care as the Gateway Out of Depression
Imagine you have a bucket, and that bucket is your self-care bucket. When you were little, you needed the grown ups in your life to fill it for you, to model what care looked like, so you could give it to yourself when you grew up. Maybe you didn’t get your bucket filled by your caregivers in the way that you needed to feel safe and secure, loved and held as a child.
Grounding: helping you stay present
Grounding is a techinique which can help you to get into your body and stay present with what is happening, right here and right now.
Grounding is something you need to practise over and over again so you can develop new neural pathways in the brain that keep you in that place of calm, safe, present moment awareness. When panic and fear take over, adrenalin floods your system and you get anxious, overwhelmed and even out of your body. Grounding is one way to stay here, and to calm yourself.
Building Trust in Your Relationship
Trust is one of the foundational pieces which need to be in place for a stable, lasting and secure relationship to flourish. In fact trust is the very cornerstone of any intimate partnership where two people are going to be vulnerable and open with one another in a meaningful way, so that love and togetherness can flourish.
