Counselling for Depression

Depression is a pandemic just like covid 19 and is only exacerbated by the social distancing we are having to practice at this time. The World Health organization states that depression affects more than 264 million people around the world. It is the leading cause of disability in the world.

Symptoms include:

  • Chronic low mood

  • Low self esteem

  • Anxiety

  • Irritibility

  • Fatigue

  • Loneliness

  • Despair

  • Isolation

  • Lack of joy

  • Loss of interest in activities you used to enjoy

Depression treatment is a multifacted approach. Medication can help some people. If you have been experiencing some or all of these symptoms it is a good idea to talk with your doctor or a counsellor. Counselling has been shown to be helpful. Impartial, compassionate and non-judgmental emotional support in and of itself can be healing. I also offer cognitive behavioural therapy which can help you overcome some of the negative beliefs which are driving your depression.

EMDR can also be very helpful in the treatment of depression.

There are many steps in depression treatment to help you overcome depression and these include exercise, adequate sleep, good nutrition, meditation, rest and relaxation. Building a good support network and having a sense of community are very important too.
